
Let’s Talk Carbon Fiber Heat Tubes
If you’ve ever dealt with old-school metal heating coils, you know the headache. They sag. They warp. They just get tired over time. That’s why we use carbon fiber. We take a carbon fiber filament, tuck it inside a quartz or ceramic sleeve, and let it do its thing. It pumps out short-to-medium wave infrared radiation, but without that annoying deformation you get with metal. It just stays put. Getting the power right When you’re picking out a tube, the real question is: how fast do you need it to get hot? If you’re doing PET blowing or shrink wrapping, you don’t have time to wait around. You need that material to hit its glass transition temperature in a heartbeat. That means you’ll want a higher wattage-to-length ratio. But here’s the thing: don’t forget your power supply. If you’re pushing a tube to its absolute limit, make sure your wiring and contactors can actually handle that peak current. Nobody wants to deal with a burnout on a Tuesday morning. What’s actually inside? We go with high-purity quartz glass for the outer shell. Why? Because it lets those infrared waves slide right through without soaking up the heat. Inside, the carbon filament is the real workhorse. It doesn’t oxidize and keeps its resistance steady. We even have some versions with a special coating that helps the heat sink deeper into whatever you’re heating up. And to keep things simple, we use standard industrial connectors. They fit tight, and you won’t have to worry about arcing at the terminals. The trade-offs (The “Watch Out” part) These tubes are incredibly snappy. You flip the switch, and they’re on. You kill the power, and they’re off. But that speed comes with a catch. All that rapid heating and cooling puts a lot of stress on the quartz. If you’ve got a sudden cold draft hitting a hot tube—or heaven forbid, a splash of water—the glass will crack. Simple as that. Keep them shielded from bumps and make sure your ventilation isn’t blowing a freezing jet of air directly onto the surface. Treat them with a bit of care, and they’ll treat you right.
